"Railroad Days" 1984
The
Western New York Railway Historical Society hosted a "Railroad Days"
show on the grounds of the Bethlehem Steel Mill in Lackawanna, NY (South
Buffalo) in
September 1984. Many of the local railroads supplied equipment for
display, including some unique steel mill rolling stock and locomotives.
Bethlehem Steel closed a majority of this large mill in 1980 and
demolition had already begun on much of the structures in the plant.
The coke ovens, galvanizing plant and several of the bar mills continued
to operate after the plant closure, however, the primary steel making
process was long gone.
